Reuters blogger Jack Shafer has a brilliant take on people who whine and moan about something that they get for free on the internet

10 to 25 Mbps = 2.17Mbps?

For BIG downloads, Comcast appears to be in the 10 to 25 Mbps range--average of about 15Mbps.  But really it's 2.17Mbps.  What gives?
(this was a 2.8GB download; it took 22 minutes; therefore 2.17Mbps was the download speed, in spite of how much bandwidth it shows was being used. Any questions?)

Already slower :-(

Can't get the same numbers I got yesterday.  I noticed this morning immediately when the average speed went to 15Mbps from 25Mbps...  I was starting to like Comcast.  :-(

AT&T vs Comcast

I had AT&T DSL internet service.  I was happy.  I recommended it to my friends.  Then AT&T, over a period of a few months, cut the speed to dial-up levels. Dial-up.   YouTube wouldn't load.  Hulu was the same.  And forget about downloading anything--it would take forever.

And there was, apparently, no recourse.  None.  Even after many hours on the phone, and in spite of paying more for the highest tier of service, I was getting shit!

If you wonder what speed you are getting, head over to http://www.speedtest.net/

This was the best AT&T U-verse could do:

AT&T U-verse was giving me less than 1Mbps.  Sad.

And today I got the Comcast "Performance Boost" installed:

24Mbps!?  Wow!  Happy now!  :-)

AT-AT

Mk I AT-AT Imperial Walker.  From Star Wars.  Seen at the Port of Oakland.

Wikipedia say that "A common myth is the design drew from prominent container cranes at the Port of Oakland, California, a myth both Lucas[4] and visual effects expert Phil Tippett[5] deny. The inspiration for the AT-AT was Paraceratherium, an extinct species of rhino-like creature and the biggest land mammal in history."
But here's photographic proof!  Keep the truth alive!

Chain mail in Hardcore mode.  A skeleton was wearing a complete set of chain armor, and when I killed him he dropped the Chain Leggings.  Woohoo!  Now to see if an anvil will repair this...

Space Maniacs

The character of Khan from Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan and the character of Richard Branson from, well, from... I don't remember, but obviously the same actor.

The very cool thing about the internet is being able to see live-streaming of the eclipse from Japan--hours before it occurs in California.

Except for things that are really "compromising" and you probably shouldn't be putting up on the internetz, Unlisted videos are better than Private videos.  Simple How-To.

Minecraft 1.2.4 made Minecraft cats more annoying by including behaviors such as scratching and sitting on a player's furniture, specifically chests.  My tame wolf wonders why that's such a big deal...

Blame it on "Mobile First" or "Mobile Upwards" architecture, but--god Damn it!--if I wanted to be restricted to a tiny little compose box, I sure-as-fuck wouldn't be using my desk top!

Real Gmail help question: How do I make this box bigger?  How do I make my compose window big enough to actually use?
